Spanish giants left in limbo with Tottenham star unlikely to make January switch
Giovani Lo Celso, who is coveted by Barcelona, is unlikely to depart Tottenham Hotspur during the January 2024 transfer window.
Giovani Lo Celso, a star for Tottenham Hotspur, has struggled to make an impression while playing for the N-17, but he still attracts interest from other teams, including Barcelona, the current holders of the Spanish championship.
The 27-year-old had a strong preseason under new manager Ange Postecoglou, but he hasn’t played much for the first team since the 2023–24 season began. He has only made a few appearances for the first squad this season and is presently sidelined due to injury.
When the Argentine joined the team from Real Betis, there were high expectations for him, but his return has fallen short of expectations. Lo Celso was strongly rumored to be moving this summer, but nothing came of it.
The player was a target for Barcelona during the summer transfer window after their efforts to sign Bernardo Silva proved unsuccessful. Despite missing out, they continue to keep an eye on the Tottenham star in preparation for a possible signing during the January 2024 transfer window.
SPORT claims that the Blaugrana will now need to search elsewhere. This is due to Lo Celso’s apparent unwillingness to leave North London anytime soon and the possibility that he would continue the current campaign in white.
Xavi Hernandez continues to be a tremendous admirer, but Postecoglou continues to show Lo Celso the kind of faith that was lacking under previous managers. Barcelona will need to make an incredible financial offer to get the player, which is not realistic considering their current financial situation.
The Barcelona management has already made the decision to look at more achievable goals than Lo Celso. The 27-year-old’s relationship with the N17 is now expected to continue.
With Postecoglou in charge, Tottenham is once again having fun, and several players have improved upon their previous efforts. With any luck, Lo Celso will soon add his name to that list and carry out the potential he displayed while playing for Real Betis.
