Journalist reveals what his Spurs sources have told him about 18-year-old
Journalist Dean Jones has predicted Jamie Donley will make his big breakthrough with the Tottenham Hotspur first team this year, and compared the youngster to Harry Kane.
Harry Kane is a fantastic player, so losing him is never a good thing. Spurs’ all-time leading goal scorer, Kane is a club legend who came up through the ranks from the academy.
Of all, since Kane left for Bayern Munich, Ange Postecoglou and his Spurs players haven’t exactly suffered. In their first eight league contests, the Lilywhites are unbeaten.
Heung-min Son and James Maddison, among others, have stepped up to bring originality and goals this season, but Postecoglou may also turn to players in his development squad if necessary.
One of the most promising players in the Tottenham lineup, Jamie Donley even made the bench for the match against Liverpool last weekend.
Postecoglou recently remarked that he was “pleased” with Donley’s development with the under-21s and in preseason training with the main squad. (Football.London).
Jamie Donley is ready to take his chance at Spurs
Dean Jones has now shared with GiveMeSport what he has learned about Donley and his potential to join the Spurs first squad.
“Jamie Donley was listed among the substitutes after thrusting himself into Ange Postecoglou’s consideration with scintillating performances for Spurs’ under-21 team and impressing in first-team training,” he said.
“There is genuine hope for the emergence of an exciting forward who has been a member of the club since Under-8s level at a time when money is king in the Premier League and finding a Harry Kane replacement is the popular topic in North London.
“It’s early, but people close to Spurs think there is a real chance he gets off the ground this year. ‘Jamie Donley, he’s one of our own!’ might soon become a new chant at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has served as a substitute once already this year, and I have no doubt that he will continue to be a member of the matchday squad. Donley will undoubtedly play for Spurs this season, and if he gets his big break, he seems like the type of player who won’t look back.
