“Starboy Status”: Alasdair Gold identifies the player who has earned ‘starboy’ status at the club
Alasdair Gold, a Tottenham Hotspur analyst, has revealed that Pape Matar Sarr is now commonly referred to as “starboy” by Tottenham players.
This season, the 21-year-old has suddenly become well-known. The teenage midfielder earned Ange Postecoglou’s faith by routinely giving outstanding performances in each game.
Oliver Skipp, a different young midfielder who began the first game for Spurs but has since been replaced by Sarr, has skipped in front of him.
He has established a strong midfield partnership with Yves Bissouma and James Maddison, and the group has rapidly risen to the top of the Premier League.
And while his performances may have generally been downplayed, Gold has stated that Spurs’ supporters are fully aware of it.
He even admitted that the Tottenham players refer to him as “starboy” in practice.
He said the following on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast:
“Pape Matar Sarr dominated the clash with AC Milan. Antonio Conte said, “Well, thank you for that. Go over there and stand,” and he did exactly that.
While [Ange] Postecoglou is no longer among us, this young man is going to be a world-beater.
“Like I said, the players at the club refer to him as ‘Starboy’ because they think he will develop into a phenomenal young player.
“I’m very happy with the direction Postecoglou is taking this team in.”
He has undoubtedly been outstanding and undoubtedly has a bright career ahead of him.
However, it will be intriguing to see what transpires once Rodrigo Bentancur returns from his injury and joins the team.
He was possibly the best player for Spurs and the top midfielder at the club before to his injury.
Up to his untimely accident, he showed up last season with standout performances and significant goals.
But given how these three are performing, he may have to battle to make the first team again.
