‘Hurts me to say’ – Arsenal legend Paul Merson makes Tottenham admission
Paul Merson has praised Tottenham for the way they came back from a goal down to complete a dramatic late turnaround against Sheffield United on Saturday.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, there was a lot of fury and despair among the players and the supporters seven minutes into the extra period.
Many Tottenham supporters were dreading the “Spursy” label that would undoubtedly be applied to the team if they lost against the Blades at home. Opposition supporters seemed eager to insinuate that Ange Postecoglou’s honeymoon was gone.
What actually happened, though, was quite different. The Spurs players didn’t let their guard down and kept launching assault after attack. As a result, the home team was rewarded with two late goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, which ignited the stadium.

Paul Merson forced to compliment Tottenham
To his reluctance, Merson, who had previously predicted that Tottenham would not even place in the top half of the standings (Sky Sports), hailed Postecoglou’s team for their remarkable recovery.
It would have been simple for the players to let their heads sink given that our team is young and inexperienced and given how the game on Saturday had transpired.
The fact that we remained believing and played our game is a great indication that Ange has created a great mentality in the team.
