Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou didn’t get any of the three signings he ‘recommended’
Ange Postecoglou reportedly recommended all three defenders to Tottenham during transfer talks earlier this summer, but none of them were acquired by the club. Despite having obvious voids in their squad, Spurs had a busy window during Postecoglou’s first few months in charge.
Spurs had a busy deadline day highlighted by the signing of Brennan Johnson, but their rumoured approach to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea was rejected. Eight more players arrived at the Tottenham Stadium before Johnson.
Manor Solomon, Micky van de Ven, Ashley Phillips, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Veliz, and James Maddison all signed for Spurs. The loan periods for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro were made permanent.
Despite a long list of new additions, Postecoglou did not get all of his preferred targets. The Australian reportedly identified his back four as a weakness at the start of the summer and apparently gave three potential signings to the club.
According to football.london, Perr Schuurs, Gleison Bremer and Tosin Adarabioyo were all centre-backs who Postecoglou and chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini identified. Those players were picked out after the pair embraced data-led scouting.
However, none of that trio arrived, despite several reports suggesting that Spurs tried very hard to sign Torino star Schuurs. Van de Ven arrived from Wolfsburg but was the only senior addition to Postecoglou’s options in central defence.

Alasdair Gold says Tottenham will consider signing £80m striker who plays like Harry Kane in January
Ivan Toney is a player who Tottenham Hotspur are undoubtedly interested in, and they may look into buying him in January, according to Alasdair Gold.
Last night marked the end of the summer transfer window, and Spurs supporters should be happy with what their team accomplished. Last night, they signed Brennan Johnson, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips, and Alejo Veliz.
In January, transfers will be the main topic of discussion, therefore Toney should be watched closely.
Alasdair Gold suggests Tottenham will consider signing Ivan Toney in January
This summer’s biggest letdown for Tottenham supporters will likely be Harry Kane’s departure.
Their best player, an Englishman, had carried the team for many years. He scored almost 30 goals last season despite having a really challenging season, demonstrating just how amazing he is.
Ange Postecoglou chose not to replace Kane, who last month left Tottenham for Bayern Munich, by signing a new pure striker.
The latest information from Gold indicates that could alter during the January transfer window.
If Spurs are interested in signing Ivan Toney in January, when he has served his suspension, a fan questioned the journalist during a Q&A on Football London.
“There is definitely interest in the striker, as there will be from many clubs,” Gold said.
“I expect Spurs will be one of the teams looking closely in January. They’ll get a pretty close look when Toney returns from his ban against them.

Ivan Toney is a terrific striker, and it won’t be a surprise at all if Tottenham would try to sign him in the January transfer window.
The Times reported last month that both Arsenal and Spurs are interested in signing Toney, who will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January. Brentford, however, will apparently demand £80 million to let him go.
That is an outrageous amount of money, but Tottenham need to fill the void that Kane has left, and who better to do it than a striker who plays just like him?!
“He’s kind of like Harry Kane in a way where he’s not only an out-and-out striker, he’s a playmaker as well,” Arsenal star Declan Rice said about him in September last year.
