Ian Wright says Tottenham could be about to make the ‘perfect’ signing
Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Brennan Johnson in recent days.
The Daily Mail’s transfer confidential newsletter claims that Tottenham is preparing a move for the Wales international.
Apparently, once they play Fulham in the League Cup, Tottenham will step up their efforts to sign Johnson.
Nottingham Forest is allegedly bracing for additional interest from Spurs after rejecting a sizable offer for the 22-year-old from Brentford.
One of the best young players in the Premier League, Johnson, is reportedly worth at least £50 million to Forest.
Ian Wright is of the opinion that Tottenham would be able to reach their “final form” if they were to sign the Reds star.
According to the Premier League analyst, Johnson would be the “perfect” addition to Spurs.
Wright told Premier League Productions, “I have seen them linked with Brennan Johnson” (28/8, 2:40pm).
“That midfield, in and around there, with Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur, and Maddison, then with Richarlison up front.
If you can find a Brennan Johnson, you will be dealing with a Tottenham team that is beginning to cause a lot of issues.
“If they can bring in another winger like a Brennan Johnson, who is very exciting. He would be a perfect Tottenham player.
“I could totally see it, just like I see it with Maddison. Then I would start to see the Tottenham, in their final form, look very, very dangerous.
Our view
Johnson being mentioned in connection with Tottenham is not surprising. In the Premier League, he has demonstrated his abilities for all to see.
He appears to have a bright career ahead of him and may do a good job for Spurs or any other significant top-flight team.
Although Forest aren’t in need of selling, it would be difficult for Tottenham or any other suitors to sign him.
Nevertheless, Spurs have an intriguing lead here. Watch what transpires over the next few days.

‘Have a feeling’: PL side now think Tottenham are leading race to sign ‘very exciting’ player – Romano
According to Brentford insiders, Tottenham Hotspur is ahead of the Bees in negotiating personal terms with Brennan Johnson in the competition to sign the Nottingham Forest forward, according to Fabrizio Romano.
On the Men in Blazers podcast, Romano discussed the future of the Wales international, which is expected to be a major topic of conversation in the closing days of the transfer window.
Prior to the deadline, Brennan Johnson seems to be Tottenham’s top target. It is not surprising that Spurs are interested in another attacking player, especially given Richarlison’s challenging start to the season.
has previously suggested that Forest want £50 million for Johnson. It remains to be seen if Tottenham are prepared to pay that amount.
Brentford think Tottenham are leading race for Johnson
However, it is clear that they are in charge of negotiating conditions with the’very exciting’ 22-year-old. Romano claimed that people close to Brentford think Tottenham is now better equipped to sign the forward in the upcoming days.
Brennan Johnson is the subject of negotiations with Nottingham Forest. Therefore, Tottenham has a specific aim in mind for Brennan Johnson, he said to Men in Blazers. “Today, Brentford made a bid for Brennan Johnson that was rejected by Nottingham Forest. It was roughly £43 million. To release the player, they want more than this.
“However, Brentford sources believe that Tottenham is in the lead when it comes to negotiations with the player. Thus, Tottenham is currently negotiating a contract to acquire Brennan Johnson.
After what is already appearing to be a fantastic window so far, it would be a further boost for Tottenham. Despite losing their best player—possibly their best player ever—Spurs have continued to advance under Ange Postecoglou.
Johnson would have the opportunity to work for Postecoglou if he moved, so any worries that he is not yet the finished product will be put to rest.
The Australian has proved time and time again that if he is a fan of a player, he will be able to make them better. And that may help explain why Johnson seems to be edging towards moving to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The onus is now on Spurs to offer Forest a fee that they would be willing to accept.
