Fabrizio Romano: Tim Steidten spotted with Mexican £34m player jetting to UK for me, set to complete medical

The Mexico international is due in London for a medical today (8 August) before putting pen-to-paper on a five-year deal worth £150,000 per week to join the Hammers.

And transfer specialist Romano shared an image on his personal Twitter account of the defensive midfielder on a private jet with his agents and Steidten on their way to England to put the finishing touches on the deal.

“Edson Alvarez, on his way to London – ready to undergo medical tests as new West Ham player,” he wrote.

“Alvarez will become most expensive Mexican player ever.

“Here, Edson flying with agents Nathan and Fulco van Kooperen – and West Ham director Tim Steidten.”

In case you were wondering who has seemingly won the war between Moyes and Steidten, this picture tells you plenty.

Steidten is said to have been pushing for this deal for a while and he has now finally convinced Moyes to pursue it, and Alvarez is now on his way for a big move as we edge closer to replacing Declan Rice.

It’s been a really tough summer for the club so far having lost Rice and Gianluca Scamacca, and with the season starting this week we needed something to happen to boost morale and also strengthen the squad.
There are still a few weeks remaining of the transfer window and the club need to be super active to get more people in and ensure that the squad we have this season is considerably stronger than it was last season.
Alvarez will hopefully be the first of many, and we have Steidten to thank for getting it over the line swiftly once he got the green light.
