James Maddison now shares what Ange Postecoglou told Tottenham’s players at half time yesterday.
Just seven minutes before halftime, the 29-year-old took the lead after Maddison’s deft footwork in the box earned Tottenham a penalty.
However, just before halftime, Kevin Kelsy scored for Shakhtar after beating Ben Davies in the air and beating goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
And it’s safe to say that Postecoglou wasn’t pleased with his players letting up after Tottenham had dominated for significant stretches of the first half.
At halftime, Postecoglou spoke to the Tottenham players.
After the friendly match yesterday, Maddison spoke with Spurs Play and recounted what Postecoglou had said to his Tottenham players at halftime.
He remarked, “The gaffer is unrelenting with his messages. He wants us to continue doing it beyond halftime. He doesn’t want us to make a score and nearly slow down.
At halftime, he said a few things like, “Don’t be satisfied with simply being 1-0 up; go for two, go for three.
“That’s why we came out so hot and firing in front of goal. It’s still such a learning period for us with the new manager, so we’ll keep trying to nail that.”
Postecoglou’s messages were clearly received as his team scored four goals in the second half.
After a weekend of speculation about his future, Harry Kane scored three more goals, and youthful Dane Scarlett completed an excellent victory.
In the second half, Tottenham really picked up the pace, and a Postecoglou team started to take shape.
Spurs travel to Barcelona on Tuesday for their last pre-season friendly of the summer before they kick off their Premier League campaign against Brentford this weekend.
