Tottenham closing in on a deal to sign 24-year-old defender
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Denmark defender Victor Nelsson.
According to a report from the Turkish newspaper Takvim, negotiations between Galatasaray and the Premier League team are nearing their conclusion.
The 24-year-old has been mentioned in connection with a transfer to the Premier League for several weeks, but it is still unclear whether the two parties will soon be able to reach an agreement.
Nelsson has performed admirably for Galatasaray in the Turkish league, and he could prove to be a valuable addition to the Tottenham defense.
Last season, Spurs’ defense appeared extremely open, so this summer they will need to add top-notch defenders.
According to reports, the north London juggernauts are also nearing an agreement to recruit Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.
Before the new season starts, Ange Postecoglou will try to close the defensive holes in his team. The Australian manager favors a free-flowing, attacking style of football, therefore in order to implement it, his team will need to tighten up at the back.
Nelsson will try to establish himself in the Premier League and become an important member of the Tottenham team. The Danish defender is still only 24 years old, so training and experience will probably help him develop.
Whether he can maintain a regular starting position next season alongside Cristian Romero is yet to be seen.
Players like Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez have been linked with a move away from the club this summer, and it is no surprise that Spurs are looking to bring in multiple central defenders before the window closes.
