Report: Not looking good for Tottenham in the race to sign outstanding central defender

We previously shared a story from Football London that stated Spurs would likely make their opening bid for Adarabioyo this week.

According to the report, Fulham’s player was getting interest from clubs like Monaco, which is why the Lilywhites are eager to act quickly to hire him.

The 25-year-old is eager to move this summer to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the report continued.

Tosin Adarabioyo on the ball for Fulham

However, Foot Mercato has since claimed that Adarabioyo’s transfer to Monaco is advancing.

The Ligue 1 team has reportedly already reached a personal deal with the center-back after identifying the Fulham star as their main objective to replace the Chelsea-bound Axel Disasi.

Monaco’s negotiations with Fulham are allegedly going “very well” and the two teams are “close” to reaching an agreement, despite competition from Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

Adarabioyo would undoubtedly prefer a move to Spurs if the North London club showed concrete interest.

If it is true that the 25-year-old has given the green light for a move to Monaco instead, that suggests that the Lilywhites might be targeting other centre-backs, potentially both Van de Ven and Tapsoba.

‘Top class’: Ledley King says 25-year-old Tottenham player is absolutely incredible

Tottenham’s defense is weak, and that is not an understatement. The backline of the north London club was exceedingly porous last season, and they want reinforcements.

Ledley King is a Tottenham player that has experience defending.

The former center-half, who is regarded as the best center-back in recent Spurs history, recently shared his opinion about the team’s defense on Twitter.

It’s interesting to note that King claims to be a huge fan of one Spurs defender, Cristian Romero.

Indeed, King says that he thinks Romero is a top class player, and that Tottenham need to search to find another top centre-back to pair with him in the backline.

King gave his verdict on the defender.

“I think Romero is top class and at the moment I think we’re probably searching for another top centre-back to pair with him,” King said.

Partner approaching

King claims that Tottenham must provide Romero with a capable partner, and it appears that they are about to do so.

In fact, Micky Van de Ven appears to be on the way to Spurs in the near future, and he will take over as Romero’s new first-choice partner.

Van de Ven, a left-footer, will fit in that backline next to Romero wonderfully.

It is undoubtedly dangerous to match up two defenders as aggressive and quick as these two, but Ange Postecoglou is the manager most capable of pulling it off.

Next season, Tottenham must strengthen their defense, and they are counting on Van de Ven to make a significant contribution.
