Fabrizio Romano – Daniel Levy is personally trying to get ‘exceptional’ player to sign for Tottenham right now
Things are getting serious now.
Levy is now reportedly personally getting engaged in the negotiations for this deal as Tottenham tries to get the Dutchman to north London, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It appears that Levy will oversee the completion of the move of Van de Ven, who is expected to join Spurs for £43 million.
Whatever your opinion of Levy, the man is skilled at negotiating a transfer transaction, and the Tottenham faithful should feel confident that this will happen now that the Chairman is actively involved.
Of course, there are occasions when Levy doesn’t act in the best interests of Spurs or their manager.
Last year, Levy campaigned for the acquisition of Djed Spence; shortly thereafter, Antonio Conte declared that Spence was a club acquisition rather than a player he desired.
Spence would be left to rot on the bench for a sustained period before being sent out on loan, and we can only hope that Ange Postecoglou is more on board with the signing of Van de Ven than Conte was with Spence.
Fair enough, it’s difficult to imagine Postecoglou having a problem with this signing.
Van de Ven, a quick, powerful, and astute center-back, is a wonderful addition to Postecoglou’s defense, and we have to assume that the Australian is rather thrilled to have the ‘outstanding’ defender join his team.
