Tottenham close to sealing deal for defender and Liverpool target Micky Van de Ven
Tottenham are on the verge of a deal with Wolfsburg to sign defender Micky Van de Ven, talkSPORT understands.
Spurs conceded 68 goals in the Premier League last season so it comes no surprise that they’re looking at defensive reinforcements.
Van de Ven looks set to seal a Premier League move
Such a record was the sixth worst in the league, a problem that new boss Ange Postecoglou wants to rectify.
Spurs have so far welcomed James Maddison and Manor Solomon as attacking signings this summer.
Guglielmo Vicario has also arrived as a new goalkeeping option, with long-term no.1 Hugo Lloris wanting to leave the club.
However, with the new season just over a week away, they could finally be set to sign a new defender.
talkSPORT understands the deal is close to being completed although an announcement may not happen just yet.
The 22-year-old has spent two seasons at the Bundesliga side, amassing 41 appearances in all competitions.
Clean sheets have come on 14 of those occasions, with the Dutchman possessing the ability to play at both left and centre-back.
Should they seal a deal, Spurs will be set to beat fellow Premier League opposition to his signature.
Liverpool were linked with Van de Ven earlier in the summer as they also look to strengthen their back line.
However, it appears that Spurs are close to completing the signing, with personal terms already agreed.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba has also emerged as a target for the north London side.
Van de Ven could join in with the pre-season action before the new campaign as Spurs face Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona in their final friendly matches.
