Pundit urges Spurs to make a move for goalscoring 27-year-old despite complication
Darren Ambrose has urged Tottenham Hotspur to sign Ivan Toney as Harry Kane’s replacement even though the Brentford star cannot play until January.
Toney is one of many players who have been mentioned recently as prospective Kane replacements. Football Transfers claimed two weeks ago that the Lilywhites have chosen the Brentford star as the best candidate to replace the England captain.
Tottenham reportedly would be willing to wait until January to sign the England international. Toney is presently serving a football ban that finishes on January 16 due to an eight-month suspension for breaking gambling laws.
Tottenham should replace Kane with Ivan Toney
Ambrose has stated that he wants to see Spurs accept Bayern’s offer and sign Toney immediately in order to put an end to the Kane drama.
The pundit told talkSPORT: “I know Daniel Levy won’t probably do deals with Manchester United, for instance, or definitely not Chelsea.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen. So we might see Kane go out there and come back in a couple of years. Take the money, take the £80 or £100 million, or what it is.
“Someone mentioned it last week, go and sign Ivan Toney. I know he can’t play until January, but you’ve got a proven Premier League goalscorer that can come into the team in January. 20-plus goals again.”
Given that Toney cannot play until January, it would not make much sense for Spurs or any other club to sign him this window. The Brentford star will be eligible for a lesser price after six months as long as he doesn’t sign a new deal.
